Our Membership

A full, lifetime membership is $1.00. A sustaining annual donation of $50.00 is encouraged. The Men’s Shed must be available and welcoming to any aspiring member, regardless of ability to pay. We see an annual $50.00 donation as advances on five shop sessions of about three hours each. For members donating $100.00 at the start of a fiscal year, they are offered unlimited shop visits for the remainder of the time to March 31 of the period commencing after the $100.00 donation has been made.

Members are encouraged to bring their own lunch and socialize during any lunch hour for a suggested (but voluntary) fee of $4.00 for coffee or tea and cookies.

To explain the member risk obligations, we highlight the following:

  1. Any member is immune from financial risk as a mere Member. Participating Members may expose themselves to risk around tools and travel, but a combination of individual Member care, training, waivers, insurance, and safety protocols are in place and managed.
  2. If you have any interest in positions such as: President, Secretary-Treasurer, Shop Keeper, or Director-At-Large; you are encouraged to offer to help fill these positions. There is, and will be, no pressure in this regard.
  3. The life-time Membership fee is set at one dollar. We prefer to leave the funding for ongoing operations on an honour system with the Members who have sufficient resources to contribute enough, based on estimated actual participation to fund the coffee, tea, and cookies, electricity, natural gas, and specific insurance related to Members and Officers. The typical insurance associated with fire and flood remain with the landlord.
  4. Where Members undertake a project which involves materials and other out of pocket costs; the Members supporting the specific project are expected to supply the funding for the project. The Members might agree to provide labour for a community project. If so, the Club and its Members must arrange plausible funding before the project is approved.
