Our Safety

Our website has a substantial scheduling application which allows any Member to schedule shop time in any of the woodworking, metal working, or aut0, bays providing a Shed Keeper is available to provide access and to assure Members’ safe use of tools is in place. This scheduling package is on the webpage called “Book a Shed Visit”. We train all new Members in the use of the scheduling system and inform them that Shed Keepers are volunteers and have posted their available attendance times on the scheduling software. If no Shed Keeper is shown as available at an attendance time preferred by a Member, the Member must change his attendance time or contact a Shed Keeper who might accommodate the Member’s preferred attendance time slot.

The website also has an events page where regular meetings are posted. Regular formal meetings will be limited to one hour so Members are invited to work in their preferred shops for the remainder of the time slot. These regular meetings are posted on the Events page, and all Members are encouraged to attend these regular meetings whenever feasible.

There may be instances where a Member wishes to host an event exclusive to his invitees and no other Members will be allowed to attend any of the sheds. In these unusual circumstances, the Board of Directors will communicate the proposed special event and attempt to get general buy-in from Members. The Board of Directors and all Members recognize the Sheds are intended for Members and will be careful to consider the general membership’s preferences.

We prefer to leave evenings open for any Member to drop in without structured timing. However, tools and space may be in use by others so availability will be less predictable. Note a Shed Keeper must be scheduled before members and guests drop in.

We realize some Members will not be comfortable with full four-hour time slots. Therefore, the scheduling software allows Members to indicate shorter time slots where those better suit the Members.

The scheduling software is designed to schedule any Members requests for shop time and posts directly on the Member’s digital calendar, it also reminds the Member of the Scheduled Shop time the day before the scheduled shop time.
